Shaped like a heart, this handsome African mask encloses an oval face of symmetrical features with a long cotton twine beard. The eyes take the shape of cowry shells, once used as currency in the region. Aluminum repoussé adorns the cheeks and a glass bead poses on the nose. Carved by hand, the design arises from the creative imagination of Akoma of West Africa artisans. They name the mask Dzifa, a Ewe word meaning "comfort."
"The quest to promote unity in the African continent is what led us to come together. We all have different cultural backgrounds and experiences."
