Guatemalan duo Ruben and Gilda Perez express their Christian faith, designing this evocative bracelet. Circling the wrist with adjustable cotton cord, the bracelet is centered by a cross-shaped pendant that is carved of apple green Mayan jade.
One of Ruben and Gilda's assistants was in a motorcycle accident several years ago. He injured his foot, which left him without a job. Ruben and Gilda have hired this man with pride as he is a hard worker and a great asset to their team.
Ruben and Gilda's youngest son, Brandon Jose, had a seizure when he was one year old which led to serious treatment for four years. When he was eight years old, he developed hyperthyroidism and diabetes, which are both now controlled with treatment. Even with extreme care, their son's condition is very challenging and often requires surgery. Ruben and Gilda couldn't love their sons more and face each day with a positive attitude and the will to deal with whatever challenges are thrown their way.
Ruben and Gilda's parents taught them the value of hard work and that art is an expression of culture. Many of their products include jade, which was highly valued in ancient civilization in the area and used as ornaments, tools, and burial artifacts. Their artwork is often a reflection of Guatemalan culture and they use techniques passed down from generations.
Thanks to their hard work and partnership with NOVICA, Ruben and Gilda have been able to build their own house and support their children's education. They hope to continue to grow their sales through NOVICA so they do not have to seek out other, more complicated markets.
Their youngest son faces many health challenges but every day they work to give him a normal life without limitations. Ruben and Gilda are amazing parents who strive everyday to give their children the best life possible.
Ruben and Gilda are both very supportive of their children and will continue to support their education with the goal of them both being successful professionals.
Ruben and Gilda have received letters of recognition from universities including Galileo University. They were also awarded 2nd place in a USAC fair.
Ruben and Gilda have two children they support — Brandon Jose and Ruben Alejandro — who are both under the age of 18 and attending school.
They have assistants who help them with their jewelry.

"Our parents taught us the value of hard work and that art is an expression of culture. This is an invaluable gift. We are also inspired by our own children."
